Instructions
The Goal is to be able to Debate using Logic and Evidence
Part One: Group Brainstorming--"the silent debate"
1. Begin Research about the definition and brief history.
2. Create a word document and title it YourName_Debate. Record the next part of your research/evidence on this document.
3. Choose an inquiry question
4. Create a statement in the format of an axiom
**Here is an example of what I am asking you to do:
5. Write your statement on the front white board.
6. Before you can access some of the links on the Research Help page, go to
Colorado State Library and log in using your colostate ID and password
7. As the class begins to create a collection of statements, begin searching for evidence based refutations to the fact-statements on the board. Write refutations next to the statements. If the statements are unrefutable (logically stand as true statements) then you can come up with another statement that brings up a "counter-point."
8. Continue with your research and adding to the silent debate-style brainstorm
9. Email your word document to [email protected]

**Here is an example of what I am asking you to do:
- inquiry question "Is slavery wrong?"
- statement "Slavery is good because it allows the owners to get a lot of work done for very little money."
- inquiry question "Is Performance art a valid art form?"
- "Performance art is a valid art form because an artist makes it."

- An example refutation: 'Not everything an artist makes is art"
- An example counterpoint: "Performance art is not a valid art form because there is no tangible media"
